What is
"Dog Town"?
"Dog Town" is a concept where the whole town would be an
animal shelter/sanctuary. Instead of one building that houses animals
in small runs or cages, each unwanted dog or cat would live
in a home with people.

The majority
of these animals would be the ones who are
currently hard to place, those who are sick,
elderly or in some other way not the first to be
picked. The homes would either be double-wide
mobile homes or regular houses. All would
be donated by various companies and would bear
that companies name. It would be an
up-scale development with large lots, maybe
following the layout of a State Park. It
would also include an office, a spay/neuter
clinic and vet's office, supplies store, gift
store and much more. The idea would be
that it would grow into a tourist attraction,
thus bringing in more revenue for the animals. |
The
positive aspects behind this kind of development are that
the unwanted dogs and cats would live in homes that would be
owned by the Humane Society and rented out to people,
perhaps "seniors" or another needy group. These "renters" would care for the dogs or cats, do the poop scooping,
training, feeding and potty training for a reduced rent. When animals were adopted out, they would be very used to
living in a home and would be potty trained. This
arrangement would also eliminate the need for many
volunteers, a scarce commodity these days.
The
homes themselves would be somewhat different. They would be
placed "back-to-front" on their lots with their back yards
where they front yards should be and vice versa. The homes
would all have 6 ft chain link fencing to the road for
viewing purposes and wooden or brick fencing between them so
the dogs did not fence-play and cause a lot of noise.
This would then allow people to walk around the
paved streets and see the dogs when open for adoptions. It
would be a gated community.
We
don’t yet know where Dog Town will be located, other than it
will be in Western Washington. It will depend on what land
is available when we are ready to purchase. Our first
step is to raise $500,000 to purchase the land/buildings or have 50
acres donated. Can you help us with this? Any amount of
donation will add towards attaining this goal. Help with
fundraising is also needed.

(Please note this is the mailing address not our
sanctuary address.)
After this first very important step of finding the land, we
will then embark on another fundraising campaign for
improvements such as water, electric and roads. The third
and final step will be asking companies to donate the money
for housing that will bear their names. Such as "Smith
House." A dream maybe, but a dream that is attainable
with your help. There are still many questions to be
answered and many skills needed. If you are a developer,
architects or builder and can offer any amount of volunteer
services, please contact our director,
Linda Hunter, at
(360) 652-5844. If you would like to be
considered for the committee that will oversee this project,
please also contact us at the above addresses.
Thank you for helping us attain our dream but more
importantly thank you for saving the lives of the ones who
lack of a home.
Thank you for donating
