BOOKS ON HORSES

The Man Who Listens To Horses by Monty Roberts.
This is the story of the real life Horse Whisperer who revolutionized the training of horses by using gentle techniques of trust and what he calls "equine language".  This technique differs greatly from what Monty learned from his violent father when he was a young boy.  Not only were horses abused by his father but Monty, too, was abused. This story also includes Monty's friendship with the late actor, James Dean and his early years in the movie business.

Ranch of Dreams by Cleveland Amory.
The true story of the activism and founder of the animal sanctuary, Black Beauty Ranch in Texas. The author was also the founder and president of The Fund for Animals one of the premier animal rights groups in the country.  This book tells the story of how the animal sanctuary was founded and the trials and tribulations of dealing with the U.S. Gov't Dept of Land Management.  One of his greatest achievements was saving the wild burros of the Grand Canyon when the U.S. Gov't wanted to kill them.
